How to Increase Maximum upload size in WordPress

6 ways to Increase Maximum upload size in WordPress

The earliest error you will get while using or installing WordPress to any server is “[file] exceeds the maximum upload size”. This slow down our work and create unnecessary problems.

WordPress is a home for many websites ranging from blogging sites to big ecommerce site. Every site requires many plugins, Media files and much more. The initial upload size in WordPress is 2mb to 150mb depends on the hosting provider.

How to check your maximum upload size?

To check what is the current max upload size limit in your WordPress site then navigate to WP Admin → Media → Add New. You will see the current max upload size on the bottom as shown in the screenshot.

How to Increase Maximum upload size in WordPress

This is very low to operate a website. Thus, we have brought 6 ways to increase the maximum upload size in wordpress.

1. Update .htaccess file:

1.	php_value upload_max_filesize 64M
2.	php_value post_max_size 128M
3.	php_value memory_limit 256M
4.	php_value max_execution_time 300
5.	php_value max_input_time 300

            This is majorly used when your website is hosted on local server. To navigate to your .htaccess file, go to the folder where WordPress is installed. If you are updating on a live server then go to public_html folder, there go to setting and uncheck hide dot files. After open the file paste this code at the bottom of the file.

This will define the maximum upload size in Megabytes. Replace the numbers as per your requirement. The max execution time and max input time are in seconds. The execution time defines the limit of time spent on a single script. Choose a number that is suitable for your site.

2. Edit Function.php file:

            If you feel difficulty in editing .htaccess file or couldn’t able to find it and you are more comfortable in editing theme files then you can use this method. Here you need to add some lines of code to change the values of maximum file upload size and time taken to read a script.

But note that if you changed your wordpress theme then the maximum upload size will reset to its default values and then again you must edit it.

1.	@ini_set( 'upload_max_size' , '64M' );
2.	@ini_set( 'post_max_size', '64M');
3.	@ini_set( 'max_execution_time', '300' );

3. php.ini Option

This is a default file used to configure any application which runs on PHP. This file contains parameters required for file timeout, upload size, and resource limits. In some cases, this file is not visible to the other option would be to create a new file instead.

Open any text editor and create a new file. Copy the following code and save it as php.ini.

1.	upload_max_filesize = 25M
2.	post_max_size = 13M
3.	memory_limit = 15M

4. wp-config.php File

Another way of increasing the upload size in WordPress is to define the size parameter in the wp-config.php file. This file is also available in public_html folder.

1.	@ini_set( 'upload_max_size' , '20M' );
2.	@ini_set( 'post_max_size', '13M');
3.	@ini_set( 'memory_limit', '15M' );

5. Plugin Method

Not everyone is a fan of writing code or accessing root files using SSH or FTP. For that situation, the plugin comes in handy and luckily there is a WordPress plugin available for increasing WordPress upload size. The plugin we will be using is Increase Max Upload Filesize plugin.

Go to your WordPress Dashboard → Plugins → Add new, search “Increase Max Upload Filesize” then activate and install the plugin. Once installed, go to plugin settings and simply enter the value for upload size.

Earn money from blogging

Having a large number of visitors to your blog means that advertisers will pay to have their ads shown to your readers. The easiest way to blog for money is to get paid for showing advertisements on your blog by joining Google’s AdSense program at http://www.google.com/adsense

Once you setup your account on AdSense you will be given a code to add to your blog. This code will automatically display advertisements on your blog from companies who are part of Google’s advertising network. You may see ads from small companies related to your topic, or you may see ads from large companies that are completely unrelated to your topic.

The nice thing about AdSense is that you have thousands of advertisers bidding to advertise on your blog, and all you have to do is add the simple code to your blog. Once you do that the process is completely hands off.

Every time one of your visitors clicks on an ad, you get paid. Google collects the money from the advertisers and then cuts you a check (usually every month).
